A sophisticated country piece, this "step-back" maple chest exhibits a theatrical back splash with scrollwork and panels.  Stained an amber red hue, the case bears its original pressed brass pulls.  The entablature drawer is supported by generously proportioned spool-turned columns.  A large, utilitarian, and elegant piece.  "Boston Regency" style, American, likely New Hampshire or Massachusetts, c. 1820.
